                              GION  MATSURI 

takes place annually in Ky oto and is one of the most famous festivals in Japan. It goes for the entire month of July and is crowned by a parade,  on July 17 and July 24. It takes its name from Kyoto's Gion district..

It is a traditional festival  religious 

where participating people of all ages, and Kyoto kimonos get old dresses and culture.  

HISTORY GION MATSURI. 

This festival has always been a purification ritual to appease the goods and avert natural desaster, that was suffering kioto. 
For example: Floods, fire and earthquakes.
In 869 The Japaneses were suffering with plages and problems made by Gozu Tenno an Evil deity .

The emperor order to people pray to Susano-no.Mikoto, The good of the sanctuary Yakasa. 
Since that order the people start to decorate the sactuary and later the City.
They belived that good decorating the sanctuary was to protect the natural disasters and renove the bad energies with ornaments, flowers and beautiful gardens. 

This practice was repeated in these circumstances. Are 1100 Years old of tradition that until times became a Festival.

ACTIVITIES TO DO IN THIS FESTIVAL.

The streets often filled with confidence, unity and joy and enjoy a tradition knoe worlwide as the Japanese.
During this festival you can get to know the japanese Culture through activities:

One of them is to see the elaborate Carriage Who are moved by the Japanese pushing the carriage in the parade, 

• You can see how riding the carriage 
• Give you the carriage amulets
• You can enter the traditional old houses, see antiques and boy old kimonos
• See the beginning of the festival ceremonies and procession 
• Japonese dance music 
• Watch the parade of participating Hanagasa: Where Maikos and Geishas
• Enjoy and learn about the decoration of the city.  

FOOD AND SPECIAL COSTUMES :

For festival at night food stalls special dishes such as Yakitori, Taiyaki, Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki. 

Yakitori: Is a type of grilled chicken with sauce and salt terriyaky. It is a very cheap dish 









TAIYAKI: 

Is a pay fish-shaped cake with pastry cream a cheese stuffed.

The Takoyaki is a food made form

wheat flour with pieces of octopus      

The crowd the girls walk with yukatas as it is a typical costumr for these celebrations.                              

                       

GEOGRAPHYCAL  LOCATION 

The festival is in the city of Kyoto, Japan.
The July 17 Parade takes place in the streets of shijo Kawaramachi and Oike.


In Yoiyima we can se how do the carriages .
In the neighboorhood we can see the sanctuarys of Yakasa and Otabisho.
It starts from the kyoto internacional center.
In Yoiyima we can visit the houses old and buy old kimonos. 
The festival runs throughout the month of July, Summer.
